Paul thanks everyone who made it possible to receive the Engineering Achievement Award for 2002 from the NAB. Primarily, his son Rob and Rob's wife Beth Hudson Schafer who brought to the attention of the NAB the fact that Paul was attending his 50th consecutive annual NAB convention.
When the NAB researched the records they found the transcripts recalling Paul's furthering the efforts of transmitter remote control with the help of his great friend and mentor, Prose Walker. And to those who helped Paul design and build the first Schafer Remote Control Systems in his garage in Los Angeles in 1953. Later Paul designed the first program automation system for which he is known as the "Father of Automation".
For a fascinating view of Paul's achievements and history in the field of broadcasting, from the April 2002 issue of Radio World, please see our reprint of "NAB Honors 'Father of Automation'." |
